My work is about the beauty of paint as a medium and the exploration of color and space through the painting process.

Most of my paintings are inspired by my experiences in specific places that have left significant impressions. I'm particularly inspired by landscapes and landforms with architectural qualities such as those of the Colorado Plateau where I live.

Other paintings have their source in landscapes with timeless, sacred associations such those that are inspired by my travels in England and Scotland.

My approach to painting is very improvisational and is to some degree influenced by jazz. I begin with a compositional essence that serves as a point of departure for exploring color, harmony, rhythm, pictorial space, and surface quality.

Recently, I have revisted the subject of nuclear science and uranium, a subject I addressed in the 1990s. I'm traveling by bicycle and on foot around and within Grand Canyon in order to visit locations where uranium is found in this astounding landscape and ecosystem.
